The Boats and Boards

CERES No. 141

At Speed Week 2002 Joddy Chapman brought Ceres, she proved to be the fastest boat of the week by a considerable margin. Ceres is a 6 metre by 3.8 metre hydrofoil catamaran designed and built by George and Joddy Chapman in 1988. She has incidence controlled inverted T foils and a fixed inverted T rudder. A big sister to the Chapman's Calliope, she was built for two-handed sailing in coastal waters. At the time of writing (October 2002) an article describing CERES will be published in the AYRS Catalyst magazine in the near future. The sails are by Westaway Sails of Ivybridge, Devon. A conventional 7/8 fractional rig with ~14 sq m main and 3.6 sq m jib.

The Chapmans have further information on their web page at http://homepages.rya-online.net/ejcchapman/
