Nick Beaney, fastest to date at Weymouth Speed Week this year with 35.22 knots Wednesday 3rd Another excellent day with moderate winds and over 260 timed runs recorded. Tuesday 2nd Wind is forecast for the rest of Speed Week!
Monday 1st Steady SW winds 25 knots gusting 30 knots. An off shore 500 metre and a 200 metre beach course were used. Chris Calthrop very nearly broke all records with a kite run. He achieved 33 knots, but for the last few metres he was being dragged through the water, clearly a good run would have been faster still. Fastest speed was 35 knots achieved by Nick Beaney on the 200 metre course. Saturday 29th Wind SSW 10 - 15 knot Action on the water included boats, boards and kites. Wind for Sunday and the first part of the week is forecast as SW 30 knots. Our intention this year is to run two speed courses when conditions are suitable, a shallow water shore course will be of 200 metres length, the harbour course will be set in deeper water and will be the normal 500 metres in length. To be able to man two courses, provide the necessary rescue cover as well as shore and office staff requires many people. We need volunteers for the duty rota; it is a great way to get out onto the water and see the action close up. Use the Speed Week 2001 Registration form to let us know when you can help or call Bob Downhill on 44 (0)1323 644879 or mobile 07860 711127.
